A perennial and aromatic herb that grows up to 2.5 metres high with hollow stems. It prefers dry soil near the coast or riverbeds, indigenous to the Mediterranean. It is widely cultivated around the world as a culinary herb, with the flowers, leaves and roots all being used. It has been eaten after meals for centuries to aid digestion. Fennel is well known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is widely used to treat coughs and colds.
In medieval medicine, fennel was used to improve vision and cure eye complaints. It was used by the Greeks to suppress appetite for weight loss, while the ancient Chinese used it to treat snakebites. The Egyptians and Romans ate it after meals to aid digestion. Fennel has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can be used to help prevent the build-up of toxins in the body. It has been linked with decreasing fluid retention and is believed to be effective for treating coughs, colds and flatulence.

Precautions
Use this oil in small doses and diluted as skin irritations may occur. NOT safe during pregnancy or on children under the age of 12. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes – flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.

Directions
Chest and respiration
Add 3 drops to a carrier oil and apply to the chest as required. For added benefits add 5 drops of Eucalyptus Australiana. Or, add 2 drops of Fennel oil to 1/4 tsp of honey and swallow. Repeat 2-3 times a day as required.
Digestion
Add 5 drops to 1ml olive oil and massage into the stomach in a clockwise direction. Or add 2 drops to 1/4 tsp of honey and swallow after meals, as required.
Fluid retention
Add 5 drops of Fennel oil to a footbath. For added benefit include 5 drops of Lemon essential oil. Repeat as required.
Cellulite and circulation
Add 5 drops to a bath every other day or dilute with Sweet Almond oil and rub onto affected areas daily. For added benefit add 2 drops of Geranium oil and 2 drops of Cedarwood Atlas oil. Repeat daily. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.
