Cedarwood Atlas – Cedrus atlantica

Family: Pinaceae
Part used: Wood
Cedarwood Atlas is a varietal of pine tree native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco that grows to approximately 35m high. The essential oil that is extracted from its wood has a long history of usage in medicine and ritual, stretching back to ancient Egyptian times. A favourite in perfumery, it’s widely used today to bring rich, spicy base notes to fragrances and has the additional benefit of relaxing its wearer.
Cedarwood oil was used by the ancient Egyptians as a perfume, in cosmetics and in the preservation of mummies. Its antiseptic properties have been used for centuries in the Far East for treating infections. In Tibet, it has long been used in traditional medicines and in temples as incense.
