Basil is part of the mint family and is native to tropical regions from Central Africa to Southeast Asia. While most common varieties of basil are considered annuals, some are perennial in warm, tropical climates. Plants can reach heights of between 30 and 150cm. Basil was used historically to treat venom poisoning and is well known for its use in digestive and respiratory health. Its culinary use is celebrated throughout the world for it’s complex and herbaceous flavour profile.
Basil comes from the Greek word for king. For five centuries herbal practitioners have recommended Basil to support the respiratory system and digestive health – particularly to soothe flatulence or indigestion. It has also been used in traditional applications for the treatment of headaches, anxiety and mental fatigue.
It was used throughout Mesoamerica in traditional cleansing ceremonies and more broadly to counter the venom of poisonous snakes and insects. Basil was also used in the embalming of mummies in ancient Egypt.
Fragrance notes
The fresh aroma is slightly sharp and green with subtle hints of lemon, clove, pepper and mint.
Blending notes
Blends well with: Geranium, Lavender True and Peppermint.

Precautions
May cause irritation to sensitive skin. Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This oil is not suitable for children under 8 years of age. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentially ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with Olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes – flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.

Directions
Memory and concentration
Add 3-5 drops to your diffuser in the room where you study or work, or where concentration is required. Repeat as necessary.
Muscle relief
Add 3-5 drops to 10 drops of a carrier oil, such as Olive or Almond oil, and massage into the muscles. For optimum results add 3 drops of Peppermint oil and 3 drops of Lavender True. Repeat as necessary.
Digestion
Blend 2-3 drops in 2ml of Olive oil and massage into your stomach in a clockwise direction. For optimum results add 3 drops of Peppermint oil. Repeat as necessary.
