Aniseed is derived from a herbaceous, flowering plant that grows to around 90cm. It is native to the eastern Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia.
It’s medicinally well known for its presence in gripe water to ease stomach complaints. Aniseed’s anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties have been used for centuries as an expectorant and for dry coughs.
The seeds have long been used to add scent, flavour and digestive support to a huge variety of foods and beverages.
Anise was first cultivated in Egypt and the Middle East around 4,000 years ago and was introduced to Europe for its medicinal value. It has a long history in treating issues of the stomach, relieving flatulence and respiratory conditions such as coughs and colds.
For centuries its aroma has flavoured many foods and beverages. In ancient Rome the seeds were included in a spice cake to aid digestion after a meal. It was also used to make anisaton – a Byzantine medicinal wine and a precursor to Ouzo.
Fragrance notes
Aniseed has a spicy sweetness supported by notes of peppery caramel and green herbs.
Blending notes
Blends well with: Clary Sage, Lavender True and all Eucalyptus oils.

Precautions
Avoid use during pregnancy and breast feeding. This oil is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentially ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes – flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.

Directions
Throat and lungs
Blend 1 to 2 drops of Peppermint and 2 drops of Lavender Spike in a steam inhalation. Repeat as required.
Digestive system
Apply 2-5 drops to 1/2tsp of Olive Oil and massage into the stomach in a clockwise direction. Repeat as required.
Menstruation and Menopause
Add 1-2 drops to your bath or make a warm compress and apply to the stomach. Can also be combined with Clary Sage, Geranium Rose, German Chamomile and Palmarosa. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.
Colic
Add 1-2 drops to the bath or make a warm compress and apply to the stomach. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.
